View on XClaude mapped the first prokaryotic vault structure Working with Claude, Anthropic's biology lab mapped the first 3D structure of a vault particle from prokaryotic cells. It's a hollow protein barrel built from 96 copies of a single phage protein. The speedups are Anthropic's own estimates, and the team says it still hasn't worked out what vaults do. The team directed the work, and Claude searched protein databases, designed DNA constructs and processed the microscopy data. A purification that conventionally takes three days took about 90 minutes. A first structural model was ready 34 hours later, work Anthropic estimates would normally take weeks. Claude first argued against the column method that ended up working. The results are in a preprint submitted to bioRxiv.
