View on Xmy experience with opus 5.5 after using it all day today, both as @myfirstmate, claude and cc for various daily tasks. tl;dr: opus 5.5 is like the smarter version of opus 4.6/4.8. it's much better than opus 5. i did not use fable 5.1 today and opus 5.5 (medium) handled most of my work. - i can finally understand what opus says and the response length has been just fine. Oh also way fewer em dashes, "load bearing", “honest with you” but "seam" still shows up. - i used opus at medium effort heavily today and switched to high only when needed and still have plenty of quota left. - speaking of effort, even with medium effort i get results close to fable 5.1 on most tasks, and it's faster and used fewer tokens. like with fable most work doesn't need >high. - using opus as firstmate, it seemingly made fewer mistakes, meaning fewer iterations to get the work done and the speed surprised me a few times. overall a very pleasant experience. - btw you can now switch effort in the middle…

audit" a shot in cc and found a few patterns that could make opus 5.5 perform worse. i still need to run more evals based on the findings but mostly agree with them. - animations and frontend work look better with opus 5.5. i still prefer fable 5.1 for complex creative stuff. for everything else, opus 5.5 has done well so far. see the one-shot animation it made based on the draft version of my startup website. - icymi there's a banked reset available in Settings → Usage for Pro/Max plans: i'm switching from opus 4.8 for now and will keep using opus 5.5 medium as my driver for the next few days to see how it does on longer projects.
