Virtua Fighter was *THE* game of my childhood, when I was 8 I used to save up coins on holiday and spend hours in the arcade. For 33 years I kept waiting for a version that did it justice. The closest was the Astro City Mini but still slows down in replays (and is so expensive), and the PS2 10th anniversary edition looks great but gameplay wise it seems to be a reskin of VF4. I even almost bought a real cabinet but I couldn't justify the cost! So that's why this exists. Tech stuff: The Model 1's NEC V60 program is recompiled to C++, with 99.5% of instructions native and the rest going through MAME's instruction handlers. The TGP, polygon rasteriser, tile layers and sound board are reimplemented around it. The interpreter runs alongside the recompiled code and every register is compared at every scanline. On top of that I wanted to keep the original super crispy low poly look but make it HD and buttery smooth, so the QoL features are pretty simple and barebones right now: * Skips…
