Claude Design moves into Artifacts: HTML and MP4 exports
The standalone Claude Design site at claude.ai/design stays usable until December 14, 2026, then turns read-only; originals are deleted some time later. Move to Claude, rolling out to paid plans, turns a project into an artifact. In Artifacts, the Design template exports standalone HTML, .zip, PDF or PowerPoint, and Claude Motion animations export as MP4. Next check: 1 December 2026.

What is happening to standalone Claude Design?
The standalone Claude Design site (claude.ai/design) closes on December 14, 2026, and you can keep using it until that date. After that it is read-only: you can't start new projects there. One exception: the owner of a project that hasn't moved can still change its files, so they can fix it and move it to Claude (Move from standalone Claude Design to Claude).
When you start a new design, design system or slide deck in Claude, it is created as an artifact. Claude Design is available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, according to the same Move guide.
Anthropic's stated reason comes from its October 8, 2026 announcement, not the Help Center: running two versions slows down fixes for both, so the standalone site is being folded into Claude.
What happens to existing projects, links and chats?
- Until they are moved, projects stay in the standalone version and keep working until it closes. The Artifacts page in Claude lists up to 60 of them, and they open in the standalone version (Move guide).
- Move to Claude is rolling out gradually to paid plans. Moves are not automatic: only the project's owner can move it, from the standalone version, after a review that lists what moves, what will work differently and what stays behind. The project becomes an artifact on the Artifacts page. You can also move all of your own projects at once, or only the ones you choose (Move guide).
- After a move, the copy in the standalone version is read-only for everyone, and this cannot be undone. Chats and comments stay in that copy, where you can read them until the standalone version closes; sharing carries over where Claude supports it (Move guide).
- On Team and Enterprise plans, Move everything on the Artifacts page moves everyone's projects, templates and design systems at once. Only an Owner or the Primary Owner can start it, not an Admin (Move guide).
- After December 14, 2026 the remaining originals become read-only, and they are deleted some time later, per Anthropic's data retention practices (Move guide).
- Public links to projects in the standalone version stop working after it closes (Move guide).
- Chats with Claude and comments on projects and design systems are not carried over. They stay in the standalone version and are deleted some time after it closes, so save anything you need from them first (Move guide).
- On Enterprise plans, a custom retention period that covers artifacts can permanently delete a moved project or design system that nobody opens for that period. The period starts on the day of the move and restarts when someone opens or edits the artifact (Artifacts admin guide).
How do you export a standalone Claude Design project?
A download of all the projects you own is rolling out together with Move to Claude. Once you have it, it is on the home page of the standalone version. It includes your files, not your chats or comments, and it is not available to organizations with the HIPAA-ready configuration. If you don't have it yet, download projects one at a time (Move guide):
- Open the project in the standalone version, click Share, then choose Project HTML. For a slide deck, it is under More formats and apps (Move guide).
- Keep Project archive selected and click Export. You get a .zip file with every file in the project (Move guide).
- Repeat for each project you want to keep. The download is free and does not count toward your usage limits (Move guide).
What changes for HTML animations?
The Help Center does not say how HTML animations or interactive prototypes behave after a project moves, beyond the review shown before each move, which lists what moves, what will work differently and what stays behind. What it documents is that unmoved projects stay in the standalone version until closure, then turn read-only and are deleted some time later, and that you can download each one as a Project archive .zip (Move guide).
In Artifacts, designs export as a .zip, PDF, PowerPoint or standalone HTML, or go straight to another tool, and animations export as MP4 video (Artifacts guide). The Claude Design guide lists "Export as standalone HTML" and sending designs to tools including Hyperframes, Canva and Lovable.
In Claude Code, /design creates, edits and syncs designs, on desktop or in the terminal (Claude Design guide). Claude Code v2.1.302, released 16 October 2026, added a notice to /design-sync and /design-login that standalone Claude Design closes by December 14, 2026 (Claude Code v2.1.302 release). Archive examples made in Claude Design include Annotated case study regroups a wall of agent cards, credited to Opus 5.5 and Claude Design, and Managed to get claude design to produce an animation that doesn't look like generic AI output, which links a write-up on how the author exported it to MP4.
How does Claude Motion export compare?
A Claude Motion animation is an artifact made from the Motion template. Claude builds it from your prompt as code that animates the text, charts, shapes and images in it, and it plays like a short video. Claude Motion does not use a video generation model, so it does not create realistic footage or people (Claude Motion guide).
To download an animation, click Export and choose MP4; animations start private to you. Claude Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans, on by default on Team and off by default on Enterprise, and longer or more complex animations use more of your limit than a typical message (Claude Motion guide).
| Template | Documented export formats | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Standalone Claude Design project | Project archive: .zip of every file, via Share > Project HTML; an all-projects download is rolling out | Move guide |
| Design template (Artifacts) | .zip, PDF, PowerPoint, standalone HTML, or send to another tool | Artifacts guide |
| Slides template (Artifacts) | PowerPoint, PDF, or Google Slides as editable files | Artifacts guide |
| Motion template (Artifacts) | MP4 video, via Export | Claude Motion guide |
The October 8 announcement adds that Motion animations can be opened in Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI or Runway, with Canva and Captions coming soon. Archive examples of the Motion template include the new claude motion artifact + opus 5.5 is truly insane for data viz stuff and Claude Motion one-shot a 30-second real estate explainer, where, by the creator's account, a one-line follow-up prompt changed the median price and made the scene nighttime.
What about design systems, admin settings and limits?
- The Help Center's instruction is "Move your design systems now." One move brings over every design system in your organization, including other people's, so it only needs to be started once, and anyone who can use Claude Design can start it from the Artifacts page. Once Move to Claude reaches your organization, design systems no longer have their own move: they move the same way as projects (Move guide).
- Empty design systems are not moved, and neither are ones made from a built-in starter theme, even if edited (Move guide).
- A moved design system keeps its files as they were, and you cannot edit it yourself on its page yet; its editors are told to ask Claude to make changes (Move guide).
- Organizations with zero data retention (ZDR) cannot turn on artifacts, so they cannot move anything and should download their projects before the standalone version closes. Organizations with the HIPAA-ready configuration cannot move projects right now and do not get the all-projects download. Organizations with customer-managed encryption keys (CMEK) can move one project at a time, but cannot yet move lists of projects, design systems or everything at once (Move guide).
- Until the closure, standalone Claude Design has its own setting in Organization settings > Claude Design, separate from the Design template (Artifacts admin guide). Artifacts require Cloud code execution and file creation (called Create and edit files in the updated Settings layout) to be on in Settings > Capabilities on Free, Pro and Max, or Organization settings > Capabilities on Team and Enterprise. In the iOS and Android apps you can ask for a design, deck or doc, view it in the Artifacts tab and edit it; changing sharing settings needs Claude on the web or desktop (Artifacts guide).
- Claude Design no longer has its own weekly allowance. All Claude Design activity now counts toward your plan's shared limits (Claude Design guide).
What does the motif archive show so far?
In the catalog generated on 2026-10-15, 21 of 3,599 entries mention Claude Design (11 Reddit, 10 X), dated 2026-04-29 to 2026-10-07, with none on or after the October 8 launch. Of those, 14 list no model, 5 credit Opus 5.5, 1 credits Sonnet 5.5 and 1 credits Fable 5.1. Model labels are the creators' own claims.
32 entries contain the phrase "Claude Motion", all on X. The 17 dated before October 8 use it for the earlier "Claude motion design showreel" trend, not the product; 15 are dated on or after the launch. Across the archive, 227 entries mention HTML, 135 mention MP4 and 34 mention both in their title, description or prompt.
FAQ
When does standalone Claude Design close?
On December 14, 2026. You can keep using it until then. After that it is read-only: no new projects, though a project's owner can still fix its files and move it to Claude. Originals are deleted some time later (Move guide).
Will my standalone projects move into Artifacts automatically?
No. Moves are not automatic. Move to Claude is rolling out gradually to paid plans; only a project's owner can move it, after a review of what moves, what works differently and what stays behind. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or the Primary Owner can use Move everything for the whole organization. The standalone copy becomes read-only and this cannot be undone (Move guide).
Can I download all my standalone projects at once?
A download of all the projects you own is rolling out together with Move to Claude, on the home page of the standalone version. It includes files, not chats or comments, and is not available to HIPAA-ready organizations. Otherwise download each project as a Project archive .zip via Share > Project HTML (Move guide).
Can I still export standalone HTML after the move?
Yes for designs. The Artifacts guide lists standalone HTML among the Design template's export formats, alongside .zip, PDF and PowerPoint (Artifacts guide). HTML export for slide decks is not listed there.
How do I download a Claude Motion animation?
Click Export and choose MP4. That is the only download format the Claude Motion guide documents.
Who can use Claude Motion?
It is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans, on by default on Team and off by default on Enterprise (Claude Motion guide). Claude Design itself is available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise.
Do public links to my standalone projects keep working?
No. Public links to projects in the standalone version stop working after it closes. The originals turn read-only on December 14, 2026 and are deleted some time later, per Anthropic's data retention practices (Move guide).
